What do paperwork gaps cost your shop?

What paperwork gaps
cost your shop each year.

Enter your shop's numbers and see how much a shop could get back. Less rework. Fewer office hours on paperwork. Less floor time spent searching. Less steel going to scrap. And overruns caught while there's still time to act.

Where the money
comes back.

Each line ties to something ForgeEPM does on the floor. The starting numbers sit at the cautious end of what industry studies report. A real shop usually lands higher, not lower.

01 · Rework and NCRs

Mistakes stopped at the station

Wrong steel cut. A piece moved past QC. A weld approved by its own welder. A bad piece loaded. Each one turns into rework, a field fix or a back charge. Construction studies put rework at 2–20% of project cost, most often around 5%. We start at 3%, and assume ForgeEPM prevents only a fifth of it.

02 · Office time

The turnover book builds itself

Certs, weld records and inspections get filed as the work happens. Nobody spends the last week of a job rebuilding the package. We assume you save half your paperwork hours.

03 · Floor time

Scan the tag instead of walking the yard

A scan shows the piece, its heat, its cert and where it sits. We assume each worker spends 20 minutes a day finding material, drawings or job status, and half of that goes away. Floor pay averages about $23.55 an hour before taxes and benefits (PayScale). $38 with taxes and benefits is a typical figure.

04 · Steel

Drops that stay usable

A drop with no heat number can't go into a traced member, so it gets scrapped. ForgeEPM keeps the heat number on every remnant. We assume 2% of steel spend is scrapped this way, and 40% of it becomes reusable. US wide-flange ran about $985 a ton in 2026.

05 · Job cost

Overruns caught while they're small

You see tons and hours against budget while the job runs, not at close-out. We assume 1% of revenue is lost to overruns found too late, and ForgeEPM catches 30% of them in time.

Where the starting numbers come from: rework ranges come from Construction Industry Institute (CII) research, as summed up by PlanRadar and Love et al.. Fabricator wages come from PayScale. 2026 steel prices come from BuilderMuse. Your own payroll, NCR log and scrap tickets will always beat any industry average.
